Fighting Online Crime: Our Cyber Essentials Accreditation
Brick Technology is a Cyber Essentials accredited organisation, proving that we are adept at managing the threat of cyber crime for our clients. Here we look at the background of the Cyber Essentials scheme.
The seeds of the current Cyber Essentials scheme were sown back in 2012 when, in response to the growing number and severity of cyber attacks, the UK Government released the '10 Steps to Cyber Security' guide. Though the guide helped to raise awareness of cyber crime issues, analysis of the guide's effectiveness showed that many security controls were still not being properly implemented.
The next logical step was to create an organisational standard for cyber security: this would enable companies like Brick Technology and their clients to have greater confidence that cyber risks were being constantly measured and steps taken to reduce them. New requirements for cyber security standards were drawn up and embedded in the Cyber Essentials scheme: independent assessments would take place before accreditation with the scheme was granted.
The Cyber Essentials scheme is thus a measurable standard for cyber safety, identifying security controls that an organisation like Brick Technology must have in place within their IT systems before accreditation is granted. These controls allow us to effectively address cyber security issues and mitigate any risk from cyber threats.
